Creative Earth Day Activities for Kids

Let’s appreciate the planet and all that she does for us with these Earth Day activities for kids!

Newspaper Owls

Here’s one of the best Earth Day crafts your children could try. All you’ll need is some newspaper (go recycling!), construction paper, watercolors, paintbrushes, markers, scissors, and glue.

Begin by painting one section of your newspaper with your watercolors. This would make the body of your owl. Once that’s done, glue oval shapes for the wings and circles for the eyes. You could leave these unpainted or painted, it’s up to you!

Grow Wheat Grass

How about some indoor gardening? It could make for one of the best Earth Day games for kids. Soak your wheat berry seeds in water overnight and leave them to dry. Then, poke tiny holes into your salad container (for your ‘recyclable’ pot!) and fill it with some organic soil. Moisten the soil well before you distribute your seeds in them. Keep watering them for one week and see for yourself!

Tin Can Drums

Got some vegetable cans sitting around at home? Upgrade them to make tin can drums! You’ll need to first paint your tin cans, and then cover the lid with the end of a balloon. You could even turn them into shakers by filling them with rocks, rice, and pasta.

Make a Nature Journal

To make your very own nature journal, you’ll just need thin cardboard pieces, flowers, paint, and Mod Podge. To begin, paint your cardboard “pages” white and then begin writing in them. Make the front page as attractive as you can by taping some flowers onto it. Punch holes to bind the pages together and you’re pretty much done. Then, fill the pages with pictures of nature. Maybe you went on a hike recently and want to put some pictures of it in there? Or maybe you took a picture of a pretty flower?
