5 Fun International Literacy Day Activities

September 7, 2021 / Parent Resources

World Literacy Day is celebrated on September 8. Here are some International Literacy Day activities your kids will love!

Book Swap

Let your child swap books with a friend. After both finish reading, they can tell each other what they loved most about the book, who their favorite character was, what their favorite theme was, and so on.

Take Turns Reading

Pick a book your child likes, (or a brand-new one!) and then take turns reading it. You can read the first 2 pages, and then pass the book to your child so they can read the next 2 pages. Continue this process until all the pages are over!

Compare Book & Movie

Some books, when turned into movies, are awesome. Some others might not be. Choose one such book that’s turned into a movie and watch the characters spring to life on screen.

Plan Themed Reading Sessions

For example, if you’re reading a book about camping, you could have a reading session inside a tent at home! You can even keep flashlights next to you and pack a little lunch box.

Donate Books

If you’ve got books in good condition, consider donating them to those in need.
We hope your kids enjoy these International Literacy Day activities. For more simple literacy games for kids, check the rest of our Osmo.
